Pineapple
The
pineapple is considered as one of the most wanted tropical fruits.
Ripe pineapple fruits are good source of sugars, minerals (
calcium, iron), organic acids and fairly rich in vitamins (A,B
and C)
Ripe pineapples have a deliciously sweet flavor. They also contain
a digestive enzyme, bromelain. With the exception of vitamin
C and Potassium, pineapples do not contain very much of the
other vitamins and minerals. According to what we have read,
bromelain is a natural anti-inflammatory that has many health
benefits and encourages healing. Choose pineapples by their
"pineapple" fragrance, and with some golden yellow
color. They should be heavy for their size and have no soft
spots.
Pineapples are juicy, mildly acidic, and very
versatile. They can be squeezed for juice, sliced on cakes,
skewered and grilled, or eaten raw without adornment. Select
only ripe pineapples; they stop becoming sweeter once they're
picked. A new variety, the golden pineapple, is sweeter, juicier,
and richer in vitamin C than ordinary pineapples. A white pineapple
also has been developed.
